International Space Station Activities

The next International Space Station spacewalk has been pushed back to the eighteenth of August to allow an investigation into the spacesuit worn by Anil Menon during yesterday's spacewalk with Jessica Meir, which began indicating an unexpected carbon dioxide reading towards the end of the spacewalk. Other than that it was business as usual for the crew of the station, who carried out routine research and maintenance. [Source: NASA]

IRIS2 Negotiations

The European Commission (the executive arm of the European Union) has announced it completed negotiations with a consortium of satellite operators to develop IRIS2, a satellite internet constellation to provide secure communications to government agencies, similar to the SpaceX Starshield constellation operated by the United States. The EC also announced an expansion of the plans, with the total number of satellites increased from two hundred and eighty-two up to three hundred and forty-eight, and an estimated cost of nearly sixteen billion euros. Launches are currently slated to begin in 2029, with service beginning in 2030. [Source: ESA]
